I’ve always had curiosity about old and interesting objects from different eras. Visiting my great granny, with her Persian-style carpets, rococo gold-framed portraits, and a china cabinet full of interesting and unusual glass and ceramic treasures, was fascinating, and my time spent exploring these objects felt magical.

This curiosity has never left me. Over time, it settled on a focus on pre-Republic Chinese and Japanese wares and Victorian/Edwardian European ceramics and jewellery. Years later, I realised these were the treasured pieces my granny had chosen for her most visible shelves.

At Check the Base Antiques, everything will be photographed thoroughly and described honestly. I’ll also be sharing clear, informative blogs to help assess objects – become your own expert!

Just don’t forget to check the base; no story is complete without it!
